Post SC Home for Children cogalltheway
Transition is taking place at the SC Home for Children. Where is Roger Childers going since he resigned from being the director? Has Richard Porterfield come out of retirement to take the Home or is he only filling in until the new director is elected? If it's not Richard then who would take the reigns at the Home? I am praying things go well there. That has been a great ministry for SC for many years! Friendly Face

Post What happened? cogalltheway
The SC HFC is struggling financially. There is little to no money in comparison to its past. Are other COG orphanages struggling like this or is it primarily SC? Friendly Face

Post SC HFC demon hunter
This past Saturday at the men's rally in Mauldin, Richard was introduced as the interim until a decision has been made. From what I understand Mike Wooten is the name in the hat right now.

Richard stated that they are in the process of opening up a third home for the HFC so I'm not sure about the financial issues, but like you I've also heard of the same problems with the finances.

I do hope that it can stay open because it serves a great purpose.

I guess I am behind the curve. I had not heard of the SC HFC.
That is good to hear. Of course many good causes suffer financially. Will definitely put this on the burner for prayer. Cool

The State Council made the decision to remove the former HFC Superintendent due to several factors.

Post Keeping it quiet... cogalltheway
SC is different than most states. They seem to handle their business as their business and don't involve the whole whole COG with their laundry. All voices that are talking just say 💰💰💰💰. Friendly Face

If the Home stays open, three individuals have been discussed at length -

A member of the current State Council
A member of the current Church Ministries Board
A pastor of a larger church in the Upstate

Interesting.

Word on street in Cleveland is that a Rock Hill area Pastor has wanted this. We'll see, I guess...

Correct.

One issue to be accounted for: The Home's current financial situation now cannot offer what the previous Superintendent's annual salary/package was. If that happens it will make it less desirable / possible pay cut for some pastors to accept the position.

The truth is that the salary/benefits package should never be as high as it was.

So here's a question...and its not meant to be cold or crash but is it time to seriously evaluate the realities of continuing the funding for the HFC? I know in the past, its been a huge success and there is no telling how many people have been affected by it.

But with the financial climate, is it still conducive to continue this part of the SC Ministries? Social programs like these are usually the first to feel the brunt of an economical downturn and its very difficult to fund these back once the economy shifts upward....especially if people don't see this as a priority.

I do think tough decisions have to be made in situations like this and they are never popular.

Was there any mishandling of funds that led to this situation?

Where is RC working now?
