Post Women as Ordained Bishops with full authority roughridercog
Even to serve as an AB or higher

When it comes up, will you vote in favor of it or against it.

Yea or nay?
Let's do a straw poll.

I vote nay.

You?

I'm wondering who the majority who votes no are, the type who don't read Actscelerate?

AB doesn't correspond to anything specifically in the Bible. Otherwise, what 'authority' does a bishop have in the COG denomination that the 'lesser' ranks don't?

Post Yes Mark Hardgrove
I will vote yes, but it is highly unlikely that we'll see a woman AB in our lifetime.

Post Not on agenda except otium sanctum
The item will not be on the agenda except as a proposal to study the entire position as ordained bishop. Some feel that we passed the position of bishop to hastiliy. This came directly from an Executive Council member so if wrong it was the member who misspoke or I misunderstood. Friendly Face

Post does it strike anyone else as odd... aprilmay
that a group of men would consider themselves unbiased enough to vote on wether women can join their group?

Also at the last assembly they voted on housing allowance raises. Does anyone think they would vote "no" for themselves to get a raise?

Yes ..

However, the culture being what it is, it won't happen ever, I think.

It may be odd, but that is the structure until it changes. However, I've talked with many women who would not vote in favor of this change either. We can demean their ability to make a rational biblical decision on this, or honor their right to take an opposing position.

I believe I can make a sound biblical argument for my view, but people I have the utmost respect for disagree with me. I don't understand how people don't see what I see in the same Bible, but apparently it happens.

It was definitely passed too hastily.

The ole timer aint never used the title "Bishop" in any context. Even on resumes/CVs it says "Ordained."

Whats funny is the use of "Bishop" on everthing some fellers have: business cards, letterheads, church signs, even wantin their church folk to call em Bishop Timbo Brown.

Dropping the title of Bishop except perhaps for those serving in administrative capacity should be considered. [Insert Acts Pun Here]

I can see some of you guys now. The first time you had a woman administrative leader give you a directive It all sounds good from a progressive standpoint. But I am not convinced that most of you guys could handle it when it got a little closer to home.
I would vote no.
