I'm helping plant a church in the near future and would like to know your opinion of some of the church names we've picked.

If given a list of these three names, based solely on the name of the church, which of these churches would you be most likely to visit as someone who either is new to an area and searching for a church or an unbeliever who has been asked to go to church by a friend?

If you have a reason you picked one of the names or a reason you didn't pick one of these churches to try out, I'd appreciate it if you'd post a reply telling me why.

Thanks for your help!

I chose Fusion.. Sounds young and relevant.. Multicultural..

Bloom -- not heard of it for a church before. I can only think about flowers..

Soul City -- maybe if it's a black church..

I didn't pick bloom because in our area it's a grocery store.

l chose fusion... l really don't like either name... why name a church after a v8 drink... if you're going to do that why not something like "Grande Latte Church"... you know, large, strong, and full of fluff... Laughing Laughing Laughing

Can it be relevant, but not young?

One of our goals is to be cross-generational. We want to be easily accessible to all four major living generations (Baby Boomer, Generation X, Millennial, and Homeland) while our primary focus will be last wave Gen X through first wave Millennial (at this time roughly 23-33 years old).

It's important to us to be able to invite the many 33+ friends we have, though, without the name sounding like it excludes them.

I chose Fusion. Actually, to be totally honest, I think it sounds rather cliche, but it sounds the best of the 3 choices. It makes sense when you want a multicultural church, or a multi-generational one. Fusing everyone together.

Post of the choices... Poimen
Fusion here also. Wink
That's what church is about, being infused with the grace and word of God.

Bloom sounds to girly, if not kinda nutty, i.e. "bunch of blooming idiots". Embarassed

Soul City, audibly, has to much Korean overtone for me. Rolling Eyes Razz

My honest opinion:
I don't like any of the 3.

Are these the only considerations?

An alternative to Bloom-Thrive?
An alternative to Fusion-Vision?
Soul City could work for me depending on the target audience.

Please consider:

4 Essentials of Great Church Names
by Jonathan Paisner

1. Strategic Criteria
>> Does the name support the positioning and reflect the personality of your church?
>> Is the name relevant to the key audiences you are called to reach?
>> Does the name stand out from the names of other organizations in your community?
2. Functional Criteria
>> Does the name work within the context of what is being communicated?
>> Is it appropriately descriptive (describes something like the location or denomination) or suggestive (suggests an idea like multi-cultural or changing the world) or evocative (generates a feeling or emotion like grace or hope)? For instance, the name “8th Street Baptist Church” is not appropriately descriptive if it is located on 51st Street.
>> Are there any available web domains that could be used with the name?
3. Linguistic Criteria
>> Is the name easy to understand, explain, pronounce?
>> Is it free from innappropriate connotations in another language or culture that you are trying to reach?
4. Legal Criteria
>> Is it available for use and protectable as a trademark in all relevant classes?
Use these four essentials as guidelines to help focus your creativity during the naming process. Lastly, do not forget to prayerfully consider a name before you start printing it on everything.

Post Just a layman
I'm sorry but I really don't care for any of the choices presented but of the three I would go with Fusion.

One of the recommendations that I have heard about naming a church is to

A) Plant the church as close to one of the nicer areas as possible, either a neighborhood or a portion of town.
B) Name it after that area so that it has instant name recognition

For example Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, the fastest growing church in America today.

I forgot to mention I chose Soul City Church because I like the imagery of a place for lost souls to come to Christ.

I don't like either name. I wouldn't visit a church that I didn't know what they were about, too many kooks out there playing church. Acts-dicted

I don't like "Bloom". I voted for Fusion, but I'm not to keen on that either.
