I mentioned a week or two ago that I've been interested in Strauss and Howe's take on Generations. I thought it'd be fun to see which generation is most widely represented on Acts-celerate.

Although I was born as an Xer, I identify more with the attitude and "mood" (as Strauss and Howe call it) of a Millennial. I'm what they'd call a "generational ambassador".

Strauss and Howe defined the birth years of the 13th Generation as 1961 to 1981 based on examining peaks and troughs in cultural trends rather than simply looking at birth rates. Howe and Strauss speak of six influences that they believe have shaped Generation 13. These influences are as follows:

* Readily-accessible birth control
* Legalization of abortion on demand
* Increase in divorce
* Increase in mothers in the work place
* The Zero Population movement
* "Devil-child films"

Me too, they keep moving GenX further back, when it was first named it started in 1969.

For the record, I'm GenX either way, although musically, I much prefer the boomer stuff (1964 - 1979)

The dates on generations differ depending on the source... I was born in 1980.. Sometimes I'm an Gen-X and sometimes a Mellenial.... When you look at the characteristics of the generations (no longer have the source) I share characteristics of both...

When I studied sociology in college in 83 the text books said June of 1964 and I was March 64 so I am a boomer. The last of them Very Happy Plus my Father was WW2 vet so I fit in that way also. From wiki - Baby boomer is a term used to describe a person who was born during the Post-World War II baby boom between 1946 and 1964

Don't worry -- I wouldn't want to be a GenXer either. Very Happy

Post I am gen-x... prefontaine
But being born in 1979, I am right toward the end. I definitely can see a lot of the millenial characteristics in my life.

Interesting link Shaun.

I find myself smack in the middle of Gen Xer's - 1973.
