How can you call it a sport? I think any event that requires the determination of a judge before you can determine the winner even AFTER the event is over should not be considered a sport. Some that come to mind are the Olympic "sports" of gymnastics, diving, aerials, ski jumping, moguls, figure skating and "ice dancing", the half pipe snow board, and beauty pageant's. Now, you are going to say "what about boxing?" You can knock a guy out and take the judges out of it. That said, I do have a problem with boxing. Some of the greatest sports travesties were boxing matches that were stolen by a judge's scorecard. "What about baseball?" We will be able to remove human judges eventually with advancing technology. Besides it is still decided on the field with certain rules that do not let a judge blatantly determine who the winner is. If there is no scoreboard, IT AIN'T A SPORT! Friendly Face

One of my personal objections has always been NASCAR being called a sport. I have been properly educated and now acknowledge it as a sport. Certainly according to every definition the determining factor of whether someting is a sport or nor not is not determined by the "winners" method of determination, but whether the event itself requires special training!

It is a sport, IMHO. (Like NASCAR one I choose not to watch)

Put the skaters on the rink with the cars from NASCAR, that would be a great sport to watch!

Post Events that I do not consider a sport....................... Memory03
Golf, Fishing, Motor Racing of any kind, Curling (sp), Ping Pong, Putt Putt, Chess, Video/Computer Game Competitions, Poker...I could go on.

While all of these events require much skill and endurance, and the fact that not that many people can become great at them, the only thing they have in common with sports is competition.

Alright. Be it resolved if the contest does not result in a score, it is not a sport.

All in favor ...

Post 1st Place Score Points In NASCAR BV COG
So does 43rd, as does leading a lap and leading the most laps, therefore its a sport by the outlined standard.

Post Here is another one... AnnapolisRev
Bowling is not a sport. It is a challenge.......but not a sport. If you must wear a shirt that one wears to bowl in...it ain't a sport.....it's a fashion show. Cool

NASCAR is not a sport. If you want to make it a sport then make the guy that is last on the poll, drive in the opposite direction that the rest of the field is driving in. That would make it very interesting to watch... Laughing Laughing

Bowling, ping pong, and chess are legit... syncronized swimming is not. Curling is legit... ballroom dancing is not. Friendly Face

As they go through their routines. Last one standing is the winner. Elbows will be thrown, full body checks, etc.

That sport could really catch on since the concept of tractor pulling is too difficult for many to comprehend.

That's a good one. How about putting the biathlon shooters in the stands during the routine. The skaters that move the fastest and jump the highest or spin the fastest will be the hardest to shoot. Then you could take two of the goofiest sports in the Olympics, combine them to one, and make a sport that is neat to watch.

Even though I don't care for the Ice Skating competitions that much (my 18 years niece--who will be going to LEE this Fall, and she's United Methodist at that....is an ice skater), it is a sport.

And rightly so.

So Full Tilt, guess the rest of the world didn't see it your way.

Better luck next time...

In Vancouver.

I am so glad that my opinion is not shaped by the opinions of the people in the rest of the world. At one point the prevailing opinion was that the world was flat. I watch ice skating, and I can see the difference between a Salchow, a Lutz, a flip, a loop, a toe loop, and an axle, and I could tell you the ranking difficulty, but it is still not a sport. It's no sport and neither is ballroom dancing or synchronized swimming.

Post It's only a sport if...... UNCbluebleeder
it involves a ball, i.e., football, baseball, basketball, golf, and yes bowling. Everything else is simply an activity or hobby (kind of like needlepoint). LOL

PEACE!!!
