We use catchers due to the crowd in the altars & to help direct the direction somebody goes as they lay before the Lord. We consider it to be a point of dignity & respect.
Had a lady one time who went back & hit her head on the pew edge, the sound was so loud several 'sitters' came up front to see if she was ok. After the service & after she was helped up we mentioned that we hoped she was ok after hitting her head so hard & she stated that we were mistaken & that she had in fact not hit her head. It took a little time to convince her but she had zero effect or recollection of ever hitting her head.

I prefer they don't hit their head, hurt themselves or have their dress go awry so yes we use catchers.
