Holy Water use in the COG |
mytimewillcome |
Pastoring in an area with a large Catholic constituency, I usually get asked if I am a priest. The conversation usually then turns into what our differences are.
As I continue to learn more about the Catholic Faith, I am continually surprised to learn how their faith is similar to the Pentecostal faith. One of those areas is our use of anointing oil to represent the blessing of the Holy Spirit and their use of Holy Water for the same.
When I read the Declaration of Faith and sermons of COG/Pentecostal minister past and present, I really don't see a conflict in the two practices of anointing with oil and blessing with Holy Water.
I'm sure someone smarter than I has the answer on this one but is the use of Holy Water forbidden (fairly sure the answer is no) and if not, how should that affect our practice of it, especially in an area where many people are familiar and have emotional connections to the practice. By the way, I'm not implying someone who doesn't agree with the practice should "have to".
Thanks! |

If you knew what Holy Water was made from you may change your mind. |

I have never asked my friends who are Catholic, what the significance of the Holy Water is, and I have no idea what it is used for.
What is the purpose and use?
(Not that I need any yet, I don't think!) _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

I think it's used for 'baptisms' and to dip their fingers in before they cross themselves when they enter the building. _________________ Link |
