Our school system integrated when I entered the fifth grade.
Our campus was the former black school.
No problems, no fights no nothing.
However in succeeding years a voluntary segregation began to take place.
The black folks used the county system while many of the white folks sent their kids to a city system in the county.
I remember telling my wife that going to a city system function was like an alumni meeting of the county system.
These two systems were bitter rivals for many years, in spite of that fact a substantial number of county alumni sent their white kids to the city system.
