Paul did say - I have become all things to all men, so that by all possible means I might save some. 23I do all this for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings. 1 Cor.9
I know that with some people, they only listen if you have an education. With others, they might be at first hesitant if you have an education to listen.
The one with an education can simplify things, but the one without one can't really make it more academic.
Paul said the goal was to win all so I want to do everything to win that prize (converts)
I have become all things to all men, so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings. 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way as to take the prize.
Sometimes with differents skills like biblical languages, history etc. you can get a deeper understanding and so you can take a complex scripture and make it quite understandable to all.
It is using all your gifts to be able to "simply teach the bible simply". Yes you get the anointing and teaching of the Holy Ghost, but He uses your best efforts too.
I want to reach all and so to qualify at first in many situations, I must be able to speak the language that all understand. All people are worth the effort to be able to reach them.
But remember, when you break it down and are able to communicate to all wherever you are at, you must do this:
Reach up and take the cookie jar off the top shelf, bring it down where folks can get at it, take off the lid, place their hand in the jar and help them grab one, lift the hand up to their mouth and help stick it in. Let them do the chewing BUT ALWAYS WHEN YOU PREACH OR TEACH
Preach Jesus - nothing more
Preach Jesus - nothing less
Preach Jesus - nothing else
You'll be ok as the Holy Spirit anoints when by prayer, you submit it all to Him and start to share the wonderful gospel of Jesus and the great things He has done. I have found once you start teaching the thrilling, exciting stories and teachings in the word, people will listen usually as God is the one drawing them by His grace. God uses us to reach them though. _________________ Just trying to slide another one by ya |

let's do a proper exegesis of your text and note that, the man who said
I have become all things to all men,
actually wrote that statement in:
- a textual corpus ascribed by his name that comprises no less than 1/3 of the NT
- wrote 50,000+ words in the NT, compared to Jesus who has less than 2,000 in the Red Letter edition
- knew minimum 4 if not 5-6 languages (plus spoke in many tongues)
- used 853 unique words (10% of all NT words) that only he used in the whole Bible (not counting the 169 Greek additional such words in Hebrews), to be followed only by Luke (851 unique words) who was also a doctor
My point - for becoming all things to all men, he sure used his education pretty well to contribute to the NT at such high doctoral doctrinal level _________________ Imperium centratus delenda est

He also called the very educated philosophers on Mars Hill ignorant and superstitious .
What you said did nothing to advance what I said. Was it said to show that you copied and pasted from a article on Paul as your proper exegesis was limited. I don't know your reason why you posted that. If you had read one of my previous post I said that the Holy Spirit used Paul and Luke to write most of the new testament to counter someone implying Peter and John were ignorant and unlearned men. Sorry my friend, but you are late to that party.
He also said that he wasn't a good speaker.
Do you think I am knocking being educated. I believe in it as long as you see that Knowledge often puffs up and you realize that if you boast, boast only in the Lord.
But being all things to all men means (at least to me) doing whatever to win them to the Lord and disciple them. That is our calling Ephesians 4:11-16.
An interesting part of John Wesley's diary describes how he had preached to those he called the most ignorant and stupid lot of people. They were all Doctors and Lawyers. They were stupid and ignorant because they resisted the grace of God. Wesley, being a grad of Oxford, saw the need for Godly education, but a Moravian carpenter led him to a deeper understanding of the gospel just barely a week before his altersgate experience of his "heart being strangely warmed". Christian David was his name and being a carpenter among Christians has a rich tradition.
Again, I am for education to build up what is lacking in the body of Christ. We need administrators as well as good exegetes. We need those skilled in the biblical languages and the history of biblical times. We also need every member of the body and none are to be above others. All have their part and they make up for what is missing in me. I just think if you have the opportunity to grow in various fields, then do so in service to Jesus and each other.
God bless and keep up the good fight. If I seemed rude, it wasn't my intention and I ask for your kindness if it appeared rude. _________________ Just trying to slide another one by ya |
