I do not have a lot of regrets, but the one that looms biggest is NOT LEARNING MORE of my parents childhood and intimate family lives. A few days before my mama died, I was thinking of horses. I went to her room and asked, "Mama, what kind of horses did you and daddy have?"
She looked at me like I was very ignorant, "Son, horses were for people who were up in the papers, you daddy had MULES. He could plow all day and still they could pull the wagon into Toccoa. Horses could not work!"

That said, I finally sat down and started a book of my life and that of my wife, before our sons knew us.

That was the one book that I felt needed to be written, It has sold 20 copies and I think I bought them all and gave to the kids and grands.

That said, I want to write a Western Novel. I would like to go to BAndera, Texas and Yuma /AZ and study the Old West for awhile. I'd like to find some OLD cowboys and just talk, as I write it.

At 81 it is probably just a dream.

Yes!!

Before I expound on that, I’ve been really seeking God about how I can use talent I have to make a better living for my family. What I kept coming back to was something I had kind of walked away from...writing. I’ve always loved to write, and I know I have a real talent there. I’ve been told on more than one occasion that I need to write a book. So, a couple of weeks ago, I made the decision to reignite my writing passion. I’ve set a big goal for a business. I’ve made a plan, and I’m working it daily. I’m starting a new blog in the meantime. It’s on Wordpress and I’m calling it “Life Lessons from a Lousy Leader”, subtitled “Wisdom from the backside of bad decisions.” I am writing a backlog of articles that I’ll begin posting when I have a week’s worth of material. I’m looking happy for places I can submit my work for publication.

So the book in me is likely going to carry the same title. It’s what I’ve learned from the things I’ve done and mistakes I’ve made.

I also want to do a devotional.

PS to my comment on the Western Novel

I read a western a few weeks ago entitled, "Preaching is Hell." it was a good story about a preacher that took up the gun after his church was burned..

I was thinking I would really like to know about those pioneer preachers and their families and life in the early west. I think a serious novel would work there. Cool Smile

It is always best to get a publisher but that is tough now-days for an unknown. I learned you needed an agent, to start with and I was not ready to jump thru the hoops required to even get one.

So I used Createspace, it merged with Kindle and is now KDP (Kindle Direct publishing) It is 'Self Publishing', sort of a "VANITY PRESS" but much cheaper.

You can publish there at no up front cost. You only pay for what you buy. I have published 10 or 11. My books average costing me from $3 to $5 including shipping. Of course the more you order the shipping goes down. The e-books are another story a low as 99 cents retail.

They will do it all for you at a cost, but For free service you must do the formatting, cover and proofing. Proofing is the tricky one. A professional proofer will be minimum for 350 pages will be 350-500$. I have used 3 pros.
The ideal is have 2-4 friends read and proof at $50 each. One of the most enjoyable times I had was when Bonnie proofed one for me. I sent her a chapter at a time. She was very good. She was surprised when I paid her $1 a page plus a box of Meisse Chocolates from Lancaster PA. She had expected no pay. She was sweet, I sure miss her and we never met.

My wife proofed a couple but finally opt'd to read the finished product.
Some English teachers proof as a side job. Cool

If you are not familiar with publishing, you will learn you need an International Standard Book Number (ISBN). Who ever owns the ISBN is the Publisher. If you own the ISBN then you can change publishers. Self publishing companies will give you the number, or you can buy it. I bought a block of 10, then realized the self publisher gave them to you. That way if you write a million seller THEY are the publisher. LOL For the average joe like me it is better to let them give you one. LOL

I could get you connected to the son of one of the pioneer preachers who lives in OH (the son.) Not the Old West, but he has shared some of the stories of things that happened in his dad's ministry & the opposition he faced 100 years ago. He posted some of it on his Facebook page that his daughter has helped him with. He is in his 80s also.

I have felt I was supposed to write a book for years, but I never quite seem to get around to finishing it. My pastor told me last year that he could see me writing a blog, and I have felt lately that it was time to get moving on that. So I started a blog (also on Wordpress) and started publishing it this week. I have no idea how to fix it up and make it pretty, but I decided to go for it and just dig in. I've posted an introductory page and the first post so far.

You see it here at https://carolinamiracles.net/. Would love to have some feedback.

Since I've released these two posts, my car has broken down & my computer tried to shut down, so I figure I am probably on the right track. Laughing Shocked Confused Cool

My daughter has self-published 5 novels so far (2 still to come in this series.) She has also used Amazon & aside from some delivery issues she has been pleased with them. Her books are also available on Kindle. The first book is "The Test of True Love" by Jennifer Conway if you are interested. They are Christian romance novels (clean!) set in medieval times. Her books are message books that encourage. Tell your wives about them if they enjoy Christian fiction. Smile
