You lived in Ireland or Iceland. I just noticed that there is only one letter different between those two countries.

To Aaron, you have to study the political history of Ireland to understand why they lean left (though they too have conservative wings of their parties which often are more conservative than ours in some ways being staunchly Catholic). They didn't fight in WWII because they had just come out of their civil war period and were working on breaking away from British control. It was more about not being the slave of Britain than not helping. Britain was only willing to let go of them because they couldn't fight on both fronts so they allowed Ireland to rewrite their constitution to remove them as a commonwealth and removed all British military bases from Ireland (Republic of Ireland) and waters, before that Ireland was only considered a "free state" under Britain. Its very interesting actually. Quite a lot more complicated history than you realize and I read it like what might have been a parallel to our own alternate history had we not been successful in 1776.
