There’s not much that can be said. I get it. It was just a reminder to those who preach hard holiness to be sure they are living it too. |

Hard holiness concerned itself with outward appearances. Long hair, short hair, makeup, jewelry, worldly entertainment, smoking, short dresses, women with pants, worldly music, etc. It has nothing to do with the heart or personal holiness such as taking care of the temple. That’s what I’m talking about. Thanks for asking! |

Does the Bible say anything about the list you posted? _________________ Charles A. Hutchins

Not all of it, but some and that’s the problem. Hard line holiness folks will stick by a few verses and ignore others, like your body being the temple of the Holy Spirit. That’s the point. Take care of your body! It was designed for you to keep it healthy and fit. |

I see the "body is the temple" quote a lot.
Are there not large and small temples?
Are there not marble floors in some and wood in others?
My point: is this the right verse to use with the goal of challenging folks to make their body physically fit? Is there great profit in physical activity? Doesn't the Bible separate being physically fit from spiritually fit?
Quote: | 1 Timothy 4:8 New King James Version (NKJV). 8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. |

I have never said anything about size. Timothy confirms what I believe in the scripture you quoted. Physical exercise is only a little of being healthy. What you feed your body is the most important thing. God gave us this body for a season. He didn’t intend for us to treat it as a trash dump. He intended for us to treat it as a temple. Keep it clean and healthy. So, who should preach personal holiness any more than holiness people? One example is smoking. Why is smoking a sin? Because it harms the body. We have preached that hard through the years, ignoring the other things that harm the body. |
