Post How Did the Wise Men Get Back Home? Carolyn Smith
I taught last week about "recentering" my life. Not any new age concept, but the Lord impressed me I need to "recenter" - the thought being like the GPS "recenter". If you pull up a destination, it gives you a map of how to get there. But if you mess with it - try to look ahead or go a different route, one of the options is to "recenter" - to get you back on track of your original plan. We talked about that for a bit.

But as I was studying & reading the Word about the Wise Men, I thought, "How did they get back home?" They followed the star there. Surely there weren't that many detailed maps back then??? Would the other stars have led them back home?

God told them to return another way, not returning to Jerusalem. My husband pointed out that wouldn't have been that difficult to back a different way around Jerusalem, and it didn't mean the whole trip.

OK, it's a bit of a rabbit trail but got me to thinking...any ideas???

They only needed the star to guide them to the King. Once there, they would have had no problem finding their way back home. The Fertile Crescent was one of most widely traveled routes in the world of that time. [Insert Acts Pun Here]

I attended with my dad and brother's family yesterday. The pastor's sermon was simple, yet thought provoking and was on this very subject! I realized that while they were guided by signs, they really didn't know the God of creation yet (being Zoroastrian most likely) but being open to Him through His creation they were guided in the right path. Once they found the true King of Glory, the next verse (Matthew 2:12), says that they heard from God in a dream. They went from seeking God, to knowing and hearing from Him to the point of "going a different way". I really enjoyed that sermon, it wasn't the deepest theological treatment on the subject, but was a very powerful thought and application to our lives. I love it when after 48 years' worth of Christmas sermons, you can still see it as new and exciting every single year!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I think I know what you are saying. I love it when you KNOW you are hearing the truth. maybe from a different angle. I have always wondered if they all had the same dream? My wife and I at times now have the same thoughts and even rare, but have the same 'basic dream', not awe inspiring or life changing, but a simple dream of a tree, boat or past experience.
I enjoyed this comment JD. Most Christians DO NOT know history especially in bible times except what is in scripture. Most of us will NEVER know Greek or Hebrew, but we can still have common sense. I think somehow they really met the KING.
I will be thinking of this post and comments today.

Even Moses and SC's, bringing it to today. LOL

Good post Carolyn.

Who said they even went back home? Maybe they were so in awe of what they had just seen that they hit the road as traveling evangelists?

Very possible, but it would have been back in their home state. (Referring to the majority of callings in our church about most preferring their home area or state.) LOL
