A champion of liberty died on this day in 1858 (L) |

Happy Constitution Day -- a US federal observance that honors the adoption of our Constitution and those who have become US citizens.
It is also the 160th anniversary of the death of Dred Scott, a hero of liberty who died personally free but before he would see the full fruit of his labor.
As the conservative and libertarian blog "Least Dangerous Blog" observed, he is a reminder today that while the Union our constitution created was not perfect, it was one that was capable of change, so that we would ultimately hold as self-evident that ALL are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among which are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
