Post Remember the First Time U Went to GA an Seen the Jewelry Booths in the Shoppin Area? Old Time Country Preacher
The ole timer had culture shock. I was walkin through the GA shoppin complex an come upon several booths what was advertising Christian jewelry. I mean big ole ear bobs, all kinda rings, bracelets, necklaces, momma's broaches, an all.

I member standin there thinkin, "Did I just walk into the AG section?" An when I ast the women who was workin the booth why they was sellin jewelry at a COG GA, she looked at the ole timer like he was from Pikeville or sommers.

I think you are lying, well maybe telling a story. I ain't never seen no jewelry at a General Assembly. But the last one I attended was Early 1960's. Maybe things 'is' different now?

Post Religious Metals and Lucky Charms Mat
My experience is the same as OTCP's - it was unnerving when I first saw "Christian" jewelry vendors in the exhibition area of the COGOP assembly (it was a little latter than OTCP's experience, but we are always a step or two behind). I have seen these same vendors at the COG assembly in Orlando I attended, as well as a couple of AG General Conferences and other such events. I guess its no different than suit, shirt and tie sales, but it give pause.

I don't think the suit salesmen said they were "Christian" suits, but "Christian" themed jewelry sounds like religious metals and lucky charms. Superstition about jewelry (and tattoos for that matter) border on idolatry.

People (men and women) can dress as they want, what I object to is the implying that jewelry somehow "Christian." I wear a little gold (gold tone) cross on my lapel sometimes, but I am under no allusion that the wearing of a cross makes me more "Christian". I wear a wedding ring, but so do many people who do not believe in Jesus Christ and it is not a Christian symbol.

When the singer Madonna was popular (is she still around), she wore multiple crosses of all sizes. Was that Christian jewelry? Not on her it wasn't.

Like I said, people can wear what they want in church and out- jewelry with religious symbols, "Make America Great Again" red hats, shorts, tanktops and whatever makes them happy. However, I do see warnings about symbolism/idolatry in the Bible, but maybe those who wear their lucky charms don't.

Mat

PS I'm thinking the church needs to apologize to Jezebel. She was just a girl trying to feel good about herself.

I agree, Mat.

Jezzy has indeed gotten a bum rap. She is much more about control than she is about makeup & jewelry.

Carolyn,
I will agree, the evils of Jezebel cannot be summed up in makeup and jewelry. Yes, she wanted control, however she used here sexuality as the instrument of control. To enhance that control she presented her body as desirable for sex, and she communicated a sexual willingness to men who could do her bidding.

I did not watch the interview with Stormy Daniels (the pron star) on 60 Minutes, but I did see an ad which showed her dressed like a missionary (covered and simple). This stands in stark contrast to the pictures on the news when she is with Trump, or the other pictures of her the news shows. On 60 Minutes she dressed to project a "I'm a nice, person, believe me" persona and when pictured with Trump she projects "I'm available for sex, believe me" persona.

It seems in church culture today we often deny the sexual nature of people, only to be shocked when they engage in sexual (often deviant) behavior outside of marriage. We are told not to judge on dress, which I understand, but even the conversation about what is "godly" dress is deemed judgmental and hateful.

As a man (all be it an aging over-weight not rich man), I can still observe visual ques projected by women who are looking for a relationship (even though its not with me). This is not simply the spiritual gift of discernment at work, or 40+ years of ministry, it is also physiological as well. It is basis of a statement often made my men - I may be married, but I'm not dead - when they see a woman who appeals to them physically.

So, yes, you can understand a great deal about who a person is, man or women, is by how they dress.

Carolyn, what I stated is EXACTLY the kinda church the ole timer growed up in. Jewelry was taboo, along with ball games, movies, women wearin pants (not just to church, it was preached that women couldn't wear pants at all). I member folk callin culottes hypocrite pants. Bobbed hair was railed aginst.

Do I believe this now? Nope! But this is EXACTLY how I was taught growin up. No I do believe if a gal/guy wears a certain size pants, an they buy a pair 3 times smaller an it looks like they was poured into em, uhhhh, they aint no modesty in at all.

Somewhere, somehow, Cleveland lost it.

Many opinions on why it happened.

Before you shoot, Springfield lost it also.

What will it take to get "it" back?

I grew up that way too, but it wasn't the church so much as my parents. My parents were very strict and very conservative. I didn't start wearing pants, makeup, or jewelry till I was well into my 40s. I tell folks now I respect the tradition I was raised in, but I'm not bound to it. If you have a conviction about it, follow it. That's between you & Jesus. I was taught to be very modest, and I taught my daughter that. It seems to be something that's not taught much these days.

Sometimes there is a sexual element to Jezebel, sometimes not. It is the anointing that Jezebel comes to destroy, and she will take it in any fashion she can. If it takes a sexual advance to bring down that anointed person, she can do that. Or if it's just undermining him, she will do that too.

How a person dresses definitely will tell on what's in their hearts.

Women are very good at spotting this when another woman is coming onto her clueless husband. If your wife tells you a woman is interested in you, listen! Not saying you are all clueless, but sometimes the husband is the last person to know.

I heard a pastor's wife say if it had been another woman in the garden, Eve would be hollering, "Snake! Snake!" Laughing

Carolyn - can you unpack this a little more? Are you referring to the literal historical Jezebel and what she did, or something going on today?

I'm not sure men/husbands are as "clueless" as some wives would like to think when it comes being attracted to women who sexualize their dress and interaction with men.

There are just some questions men have learned the acceptable answer to - like does this dress make me look fat (of course not) - do you like my hair this way (of course I do) - do you think she is pretty, or sexy (no, she's not my type) - do you wish I looked more like her (no, I love the way you look).

After 42 plus of marriage, my wife knows exactly what I think is attractive when it comes to women. That's OK, I know the reason she like to watch the movie "Thor" again and again. Very Happy

We "guard" the church from predator men and we keep an eye our good eye at that) on predator women as well. Shocked
