Post Let's give one more chance... Cojak
Carolyn sent me a reference to a picture from the time my dad pastored the COG in Albemarle, NC. That picture brought back memories of Three preachers that I know of that came from that church.
There was Irvin Burris who eventually pastored in the great state of Missouri.
Hubert Hall who had long pastorates at two churches in NC
and the one who impressed me as a kid, but least known was Jimmy Cotter.

He was a Boy's man, tall, cool, always paid attention to kids bragging on them. He was handsome and striking when dressed up.

Jimmy was known to drink a lot. He was saved in one of Dad's tent revivals. He fell off the wagon a few times. Bro Hall was the church clerk at the time. He called dad to say Jimmy was drunk again. Dad told Hubert, I told him the last time that was it, and dad hung up.

That afternoon Bro Hall came to the parsonage. Dad had calmed down by then. I heard Bro. Hall say, "Let's give him one more chance."

Dad agreed and drove over to Jimmy's house to pray with him. That did it. Later Jimmy was called to preach, he pastored in NC and did a few stints over seas for the Lord and stayed faithful to the end.

I have thought about that a lot of times. Jimmy's first parsonage was a Masonite (we called it beaver board) 8'x8' homemade trailer with an outhouse. I know that because Dad bought it for me to live in later after they built a parsonage.

Remember, there are a lot of folk who need one more chance.

So true, Cojak! Thank God He gave us all one more chance!

BTW, Irvin Burris' daughter went to ECBC when John & I were there. She is a music minister. Awesome talent, very gifted. Her dad passed away sometime last year, I think.

Post Amen! Aaron Scott
That is one of the most encouraging things I've read here.

I might add that sometimes we also need to "try one more time."
