It is definitely a good article and great thoughts, BUT, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE can't we do both? Serve a congregation and evangelize?
I remember as a kid I wondered, 'what good is a coach?' i THOUGHT Take eleven good foot ball players, 9 good base ball players and they will play and win ! Then I learned later they still needed a coach. To direct what they could not see. To spot their weaknesses and encourage a change.
Sure ideas now are different from 1954, but people ain't! We are still human.
Most folk today DO NOT WANT A DROP IN PASTOR OR A BABYSITTER AS SOME PUT IT, but they would appreciate him having the time to stop by when mama or daddy dies, or at least KNOW that a loved family member had died.
I strongly feel both 'IDEALS' still need to be served. Maybe one a little less than the other, but Saints need a coach (Paul & Peter served that role).
I honestly don't mean to be NEGATIVE, but my heart hurts when a pastor hears a senior 'lovingly talk about Bro. so & so stopping by for my chicken and dumplings etc., and he Throws a big bomb as Sis jones, "this is not the 1950's sister. WE are after souls today!" (OF COURSE NOT IN THOSE WORDS, BUT IN BODY LANGUAGE AND ACTIONS).
I realize the writer has done more in a year than I have in 78 years, and I may not get it across here, and I feel what the guy is saying, but IMO he is throwing out the baby. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!
