Many pastors and individuals do not realize how important their monthly support is for a missionary. Even the smallest amount that is faithfully and consistently given has an impact, not only in helping the missionary with everyday needs, but also in providing for ministry needs. I must say that over 35 years of missionary service and living in a foreign culture, I have been so blessed and am truly thankful for these monthly donations that have provided for the needs of my family and for the ministry.
Each career missionary is responsible for his or her resident visa fees, permanent housing for the missionary family, automobile purchases, and insurance (auto, life, and health). The missionary family must deal with the constant oversight and regulation of a foreign government. In many countries, it is financially impossible for a career missionary to purchase a home because of finance charges, banking requirements, and government restrictions. In some countries, the government forbids foreign nationals from owning private property. On the field of ministry, each career missionary family has its own monthly bills to pay. This is why the consistent and faithful monthly giving of donors is so important to a missionary. _________________ Dennis Tanner
