The demographic of our council happens to favor women by a ratio of 2:1. Ladies serve in our local congregation in a similar ratio of our teachers. We are blessed to have a wonderful lady serving as our church clerk for over 30 years now, our children's ministry leader and drama team director are ladies, and as far as fundraising for the youth, the ladies of our church go above and beyond. If we had an elder's council, I would not hesitate to nominate several of our women to that, whom I consider to be already elders functionally. [Insert Acts Pun Here]

Biblically an elder is the husband of one wife...if a woman is an elder she must be a husband of one wife.

The real issue is what is "husband of one wife" Does she have two wives, is she a remarried widower?

Post Yes... Brandon Bohannon
Our elder of finance is a retired multi-million dollar investment banker. She is also a retired finance officer for the local school district. She handles all reports and finances for the church and she oversees the finance committee which consists of two more business women. She is spirit-filled and very wise. She is also faithful to God, her husband, her daughter and grandchildren and to her church. She is a woman of prayer and the study of Scripture. She is well respected in town and serves on the boards of two local charities that benefit senior adults and shut-ins. She rotates with another lady in cleaning the church.

Another elder is certified through the COG as a prison/jail chaplain. She coordinates two other women that faithfully visit the local jail weekly with her. She is also the local hospice chaplain. She is a teacher of the Word, author, writer, singer, and prayer warrior.

Our other 6 elders are men. Five of them are married. All of their wives are heavily involved as elders in prayer, weekly (Titus 2:3-5) praying with and for "younger" women in their walk with the Lord. One of these women serves as our Women's Ministries coordinator.

Our full-time children's pastor is a woman and an Ordained Minister in the COG.

Our most faithful worship leader is a woman. We do have a male worship pastor. Our most faithful audio/visual techs are women.

Our hospitality and greet teams are women.

Our nursery workers are women.

Half of our youth workers are women.

My partner in love, life, and ministry is a woman. She is gifted in so many areas, many of them are areas that I am not. She is a great teacher and has been recognized for those abilities in the church and in the school(s) that she works in. I definitely married way above my station!

I'd say that we have the XX chromosomes covered in our church!

P.S. We feel blessed! We have many "strong" men of God. We don't have women in leadership because of an absence of anything. We have men and women in places of leadership based upon callings, giftedness, and qualifications. Our church is a sweet picture of men and women working together.

Yeah, but when I run a search and post the link, I always delete the part that highlights my search term. Cool

It's just making the point of the person should be married. If yu want to play that game, go through the entire Bible and anywhere it says "he" or "man," it doesn't apply to women. If any man......
