Post Preachers Who Don't Like to Study Old Time Country Preacher
The ole timer had a friend who got preachin papers with the COG. I had him come preach fer me. He got up on a Sunday morning and for he preached he asked the church to pray for him cause he didn't like to study. An startin out, hey, I know folk gotta learn. So, bout a year later I invited him again. This time I told momma, "If he says at again I'll never ask him to preach again." Lo & Behold, the ole boy got up, said the exact same thing, askin the church to pray for him cause he didn't like to study. I felt like takin a offerin pan an slappin him upside the head fer bein so ignorant. That was over a decade ago, an nope, I ain't never ast him again.

Any a yall had any experiences like at?

Post 2 opportunities to help the man... excellentposter
OTCP, I am sure that you took at least one of the opportunities to reach out and speak lovinging to the preacher about the need to study the Word. Pls tell us how that went..., because I have often wondered how to address a fellow minister without it coming across like I knew everything and was talking down to him/her. Friendly Face

I spoke with ma friend about the necessity of study/preparation an how important it was. An I told him that even if he didn't like to study, my gootness, don't ever get up an tell the people ya preachin to that. Pray about it an ast the good Lord to help ya.

Yep, I tried to help the ole boy, but seems like he was more interested in studying the mating habits of homosexual sapiens than he was the good Book.

Simply give him the right website for his sermons, I hear it saves a lot of research and study.

Or someone could tell him he would make someone a good member, if he didn't speak in church! Shocked

Sometimes its semantics. We hear someone say "study" and we assume that means a particular thing like:
"I don't read my Bible."
"I hate preaching."
"I find it difficult to put a message together."

We should find out what the brother is talking about.

Sometimes folks just don't know techniques that make study, sermon-prep, less arduous and more enjoyable.

Post OTCP I am surprised JLarry
If I had a visiting preacher tell my church that they would not get a second chance and I would probably tell him why.
