Quote: | If this story is legit and if you truly went to all the leadership in the CoG and if you went to the authorities...then let them handle it. |
And if they wouldn't handle it? If they chose to sweep it under the rug? If they tried to cover it up and smooth it over? Then what??
Why would you be defensive about a thread in which NO ONE has been named? Not even any initials have been given. No state has been named.
It seems to me that gossip is not as much of a danger to someone's reputation as the truth coming out might be. |

Joe Paterno reported sex abuse to the folks over him...who apparently hoped it would all disappear - and did nothing.
But when it came out - Joe was held responsible for not "doing more".
Just make sure you "did more". _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

Now all those who read this thread have this thought that somewhere, there is a pastor, church, CoG state leadership and CoG international leadership who are covering up something bad that happened to a child. This is not a joke. |

This is a very delicate balancing act. If there are substantial 'facts' about this, NBF has good advice. BUT make sure of the facts, 'HEAR SAY', don't cut it. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

I'm just encouraging him to "put up - or shut up".
If true - do something.
If you only have second hand - do nothing. _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

The question is do we want to know the truth about it?
If you delve much into church abuse (and I don't mean the just the Roman Catholic Church), you find common themes of cover-up, victim blaming, and accusations of "gossip" against those who try to expose it. Sometimes, there is an unwillingness to act because the evidence consists of little other than personal testimony. As one person said, all a perpetrator asks is that bystanders do nothing.
Maybe if all the facts were known here, the Church of God has done nothing wrong, but I don't want to squelch an investigation just because it might make someone in power look bad.

I don't think that was ever the job, but a natural progression in the past. Just like the pastors in the COG when they did a good job pastoring EXPECTED to get what was called a 'step-up' at pastor changing time. I am not sure if there is a 'pastor changing time' anymore. If abuse has happened, I still say contacting the legal dept for the COG would be the route to go. Seems like it would be their job to protect the COG itself, and they would be forced to investigate it and figure out what happened, who is at fault, and deal with it. _________________ "More of Him...less of me."

I shouldn't have been so harsh. My apologies.
But if I know something for sure - I don't let it drop. You shouldn't either.
I only caution that you better know for sure - because reputations will be ruined.
Rotary 4 way test:
1.Is it the truth?
2.Is it fair to all concerned?
3.Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4.Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Make sure you know #1. _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

In the scenario contact was made with an official and told they would Return contact and never have. Sufficent Time has passed. |
If a child abuse situation has taken place then you are bound by law to report it to your local law enforcement agency for them to investigate. |
