Term limits seems like an unwise plan to me. I can understand the problems that come with career politicians, but term limits guarantees that the people in an important legislative function have limited experience working in the role. If we really did get someone good, we should want him to serve longer.

The people in the Congressmen's and Senator's districts/states keep reelecting them.

Term limits has it's downfall too. When we got a great Overseer, he had to leave. Acts-pert Poster

Just think of the line of candidates looking for a lifetime of retirement benefits for only serving one or two terms? Hon. Dr. in Acts-celeratology

Okay, I could go for that, but the Democrats have put in too many liberal judges for that to stand, unless it was a constitutional amendment, but even then, I don't know if the Constitution would be save.

Short-term candidates without at least the potential of serving long-term may result in candidates feeling less accountable for their actions. Some aspect of the government needs to have some stability. Either the system would weaken, crumble, or else some other branch of government might pick up the slack. If we had permanent congressional aids who weren't replaced, they could secretly run the whole system from behind the scenes, kind of like in the old British sitcom 'Yes Minister'.
