Post A Tom Sterbens flashback!! Resident Skeptic
Tom Sterbens had this to say a couple of years back about restoring ministers who have fallen into immorality...
Quote:

"This is a point I've tried to make over and over again through the years.

Point - the means by which a person is initially established in ministry is by observed behavior (life of faith) over a period of time, by those h
e or she lives with and around. That is how they first were
acknowledged to serve in a place of leadership influence...even in the COG.

Point - what typically happens in restoration initiatives is done my counselors, or some mechanical expression of an organization (denomination).

We should focus on restored fruit rather restored gifts...and insist that a person become involved with a community of believers - who witness the life and faith of the individual over a period of time.

AGAIN - our focus is on restoring a gift not a person (error). Let them grow within a community of believers and serve within that group. For some of those who have fallen, that may in fact happen in a year or two, for others it may never happen at all.

I am not being harsh, cruel or legalistic, sincerely. I want to see the most effective restoration process we might be able to embrace, and we will only do that when we pursue the most biblical path forward."
