According to the WNC Echoes (available online) Central COG reported over $188,000 in tithes and close to 5000 in their worship service in April of this year.

I would say they are still with us.

Maybe a typo, but if Central is running nearly 5000 yet their tithe is only 188K then i am truly perplexed.

There are chuches az fraction of that size tithing more.

Loran simply got up on a Sunday morning with a giving envelope and explained to his people that if they put their giving in the tithe line, that a percentage goes to the denomination. If they put it on the general fund line, it all stays in the local church for them to decide how every dollar is invested in ministry.

He's simply allowing his congregation to make an educated decision. What's wrong with that??

That is down from 5 years ago, however.

Think they are getting old - need to reinvent themselves.

Post THE LOVE OF GOD
I have heard of other Pastors doing that but I am totaly against it. That is how our denomination is supported and that is how they pay the bills. Tithe is separate from offering. Tithe is on the income and offering is over and above. I know of another church that run about a thousand people and their tithe is $5,000 to $9,000. We always had a rule, if it comes in as tithe, it is counted as tithe - no beating around the bush about it. I have seen many times when it would have helped our local church to count it as offering but there is this thing called INTEGRITY that kept us honest before God and our oranization that we promised to support faithfully. I lose respect and confidence when I hear of pastors telling their congreation to list it as offering. Our organization would not be what it is today if it had been done that way all these years.

Just my opinion!!!

Integrity is an itemized financial report posted for everyone to read.

Account for every penny.

Let the people decide for themselves where they want their donation to go.

Just my O.

Y'all never cease to amaze me. Instead of rejoicing that a church is running almost 5000 for morning worship & has almost $200,000 in tithes (by far the largest in the state) - let's run 'em down & speculate why it isn't more! Let's run down one of the most faithful pastors in our denomination, even if his church is doing a great work for God and spreading the gospel! He must be doing it wrong.

Jesus, how dare you heal that man on Sunday!

You missed the point. Again.

Amazing!

If someone would hint to my wife, don't enter the full amt on the tithe line, she would ignore the advice as contradicting the scripture.

Me, I have no problem with it. I think it is all offerings, BUT, BUT unless she dies first it will be entered on the tithe line no matter if the General Overseer advised her so as long as she is alive. She has paid the 'tithe' since she was 12 yrs old, at 78 she ain't about to change. She knows how I feel but OUR 10% goes on that line. Then some on the other lines. (She is sure God designed the envelope, and sees what she writes on which line).

Howsoever, SHE IS THE MOST CHRISTIAN PERSON I KNOW, so I have no problem with it. Cool
