Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. (Ephesians 5:25-27 NASB)
Christ loves His church!
He gave Himself up for her! Why? So he could:
Sanctify her.
Cleanse her.
Presented her to Himself.
Why did He do this for us? So we could be joined to Him!
So He could present us to Himself a glorious, spotless, holy and blameless bride!
We have been joined to the Lord (Rom. 7:4; 1 Cor 6:17)
We have become "one spirit" with Him.
We are His body.
We are His branches.
We are His building.
We are His bride.
What is our role?
Believe in Him and our union with Him.
Your sanctification, cleansing and union with Him was His work, not yours. He did all that was necessary to present you to Himself!
If we're not already wed to Christ:
We have no right to use His name;
Intimacy with Him is inappropriate;
Fruitfulness with Him is inappropriate.
"Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God." Rom. 7:4
"Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, The two shall become one flesh. 17 But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 1 Cor. 6:16,17 _________________ I'm not saved because I'm good. I'm saved because He's good!
