Concerning the age of the earth.... |
Eddie Robbins |
Dr Edward Fudge writes:
"The Bible does not answer all our questions, but it tells us everything we need to know to accomplish the purpose for which it is given. That purpose is to reveal God — ultimately and most clearly in Jesus of Nazareth — and to show us our place in the universe, in relation to God, to the rest of creation, and to each other. It shows us that sin is our fault, not God’s, and that salvation from all sin’s effects is God’s initiative and not ours. Scripture points us to a relationship with the Rock of Ages. It does not tell us the ages of the rocks." |

Very good quote.
My dad with a formal education of third grade, before he had to quit school and work on a North Georgia farm, said,"The scriptures lean to, 'The World HAD BECOME without form and void.' That 'had become' could represent 500 million years and to God it would have been like a day to humans."
Since a child, thanks to my own dad's insight, I never got concerned about the age of the rocks either. The Rock of Ages is a different story though. That does concern me.
Good point Eddie. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

All I know. It is older than me and I will be 66 Sunday. It is also older than my great-grandfather. He was born in 1875 and lived 104 years.
I have also have also visited the grave of my great-great-grandfather Milam and my great-great-grandfather Willis. Great-Great-Grandpa Milam was born in the 1840's. He fought in the "Civil War". As did my great-great-grandfather Willis. _________________ Recorded Sermons @ www.pastorwiley.com

All the various theories that assume an old age for the earth (day-age, gap theory, theistic evolution, etc.) all require belief in death before sin. Paul's theology of salvation is predicated upon the fact that sin entered the world through one man, just as salvation came by one Man, the Second Adam, and that death is the RESULT of sin. |

Did sin enter the world through Adam, or did it enter Eden? |

Romans 5:12 ESV Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned. |

Why would I watch that? Preachers who "nail" other preachers aren't worth giving 2 seconds to, much less 2 hours. |

Wouldn't it be more fitting to say Hovind annihilates Fudge? |

That would be cute if he taught annihilation. Dr Fudge is a wonderful man who has studied more about the subject of hell than all of us combined. This quote had nothing to do with it anyway. But, it figures. |

Great guns Eddie!
Hovind never mentions Fudge.
He propably never heard of the man.
I didn't until this thread.
Hovind is a very entertaining speaker.
It won't seem like two hours.

You said that he "nails" Dr. Fudge. I assumed he mentioned him. It is true that most people in our circles don't know who Dr. Fudge is. |

In the video, Hovind puts forth his argument for a young universe.
He believes in a six thousand year creation and the flood occurring about four thousand years ago.
Compelling and humorous presentation.

Dr. Fudge says that the Bible doesn't tell us how old the rocks are. We don't know. How is believing in a 6,000 year old earth "nailing" someone who says we don't know? I just don't get the idea that this is some sort of competition and one guy gets "nailed" when there is zero evidence to support it. Just share ideas. |
