How long does someone |

have to attend your church before you use them i.e. front line singer, receive offering, etc...
I have a couple who has been attending for close to year, the wife is singing on the front line and her husband is the sound-man. I started using them a couple of months after they started attending. The first Sunday they attended, they came with an older couple. The older couple came for a few weeks and stopped attending. I asked the couple that stayed why the older couple stopped attending and they said they didn't want to start all over again, they got hurt several times in different churches and are tired of being hurt.
I wasn't sure what he meant by "starting all over again" and he said that every church they had attended, they had to wait for months to be used in that church, because they were "new". I told him that just because a person knew how to do or wanted to do, the Pastor has a responsibility to know who is allowed to be used in the church. He said he understood that, BUT it is hard to sit and wait, when you know what and how to do, but not being allowed to do.
I have spoken to the older couple on different occasions, but they are happy (so they say) just staying home and having church. They are very knowledgeable and would be a great asset to any church. So, I guess what I'm trying to ask is, "Would you use this couple without them attending for a unwritten specified time?" |

In my experience, folks will generally gravitate towards what they believe they can do better at. If they are happy having church at home, they will probably never be happy being a part of your church, no matter how nice you may be.

The very thought that they don't want to wait... |

And get to know the church, leadership, and and demonstrate faithfulness shows that you don't need to use them. They say they don't want to be hurt could be tantamount to "I don't want to submit to pastoral leadership" hence the large number of churches they have previously attended.
I bet it was never their fault, always someone else's. _________________ Doctor of Bovinamodulation |

Yea, cause at home they can call the shots, be in control, an don't have to walk in mutual submission and be a functioning part of the body of Christ. |

My 2 cents from the pew, Every case is different.
Reverse the question of a NEW pastor. Some can come in and 'change' things to suit them immediately, and it works. Others can do the same and NEVER find a sure foot at the church.
I think the smart thing with newbees, is not judge where they have been too harshly, unless their reputation is that of murderers (spiritually). A pastor should use his judgement and not be afraid to use them occasionally if they do have 'talent'.
1... Fact is some folk THINK they have talent and DO NOT!
2....Some folk think they can preach and/or pastor and CANNOT!
I think anyone around religious organizations for awhile, knows that. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!
