I should hasten to add that in my view the title, "Bishop" in the CoG shouldn't be a level of credential, but should instead be an office. So in my view, a woman, if elected, could indeed possibly serve as administrative bishop, presiding bishop, etc., regardless of the question regarding the nomenclature of the top level of ministerial credential in the CoG. Me too...

Count me in as a yes vote & my 76 yr old dad said the same.

A/G's have had no problem at all with women as Bishops & they haven't ever had one even come close to being elected to high office (for those who are worried about such a concern).

I would have enjoyed the leadership of Deborah as a prophet in Judges 5. She fought off the enemies of God's people & God gave them 40 yrs of peace under her spiritual guidance.

When it came up for vote 4 years ago we had a packed out floor who voted.

The next day we had over 700 less guys who showed up for the business sessions.

It's a cultural/geographical divide as long as the vote is in the deeeeep south.

Move the GA to Denver & let's vote there Twisted Evil

The best thing about it is that 80% of Actscelerators represent about 20% of the actual vote. Thank God for that.

Post Just a note of clarification MS7777
to Dean's comment on the AG. The AG has always had, for 100 years now, women as Ordained clergy members. (Does that make us culturally relevant or progressive if we've been doing it for 100 years?) Many women have been and are Missionaries and pastors. In addition, several Districts around the country do in fact have elected women on their Executive Presbytery. Beth Grant sits on our National Executive Presbytery as an elected official. However, none of our Executive Officers and very few if any of our District officers are women.

PS Zollie Smith is an African American and he is the head of the AG US Missions.

Blessings

I originally was credentialed and pastored in the A/G, and I seemed to recall there was some controversy and variability historically in the A/G with regard to the ordination of women. The following timeline shows that women were not eligible for full ordination in the A/G until 1935:

http://www.has.vcu.edu/wrs/profiles/AssembliesOfGod.htm

In any case, I agree with the current stance of the A/G on this, and am glad they finally came around, at least officially--even though women may be ordained in the A/G, they still comprise only a very tiny fraction of A/G ministers.

Why the seeming ceaseless sarcasm?

I guess because I am very glad you represent the minority, and not the majority. I have to keep reminding myself of that.
And not only that, but I'm just joking around by reminding you, you aren't in charge. You represent a very small % of COG Pastors.
I guess that probably would sting a little.

Why be a punk? You unfortunately represent a group (too many) of people in the COG. It's that group that is holding us back. Your attitude and mean words to a noble man reveals your fear that your power is slipping. Your little pathetic kingdom is melting away. That stings a little I'm sure. Friendly Face

Actually I couldn't care less what you think. I am mainly playing around and jerking a few chains. I guess yours got pulled pretty good.
"Holding us back" lets us know it's an us vs them. Good thing "Us" is the minority. Sorry of holding you back. Laughing Laughing

Using opinions, passions, human reasoning, and even the argument that other denominations are doing it. I'm not trying to argue, but this could begin us down a slippery slope and one is forced to wonder, "Where will it stop?"

Just thinking out loud.
